Getting a house building service house building service on the moon is not as complicated as some may think. As long as you have access to the right resources, you should be able to build a space dwelling that could be used by hundreds of thousands of people.
The best way to accomplish this would be to rely on a giant 3-D printer that could create a dwelling from scratch. This technology is still in its infancy, but it could revolutionize the process of developing a natural satellite.
In the same way that a 3-D printer can make a solar panel or a protective screen, it could also produce other components of a lunar base. In fact, one company is already building a test structure in Houston.
NASA has provided over $6 million to three universities in order to develop this technology. Meanwhile, a dozen private lunar-transportation firms are preparing robotic missions to the surface.
Despite the fact that this technology is still in its infancy, it may be able to help bring a livable space to the Moon by 2020.
However, there is one important issue to consider. In order for this to happen, firms will have to learn to share their know-how and resources. This will not be easy for both private and international players.
To be considered a true feat of engineering, the moon’s housing system must not only be able to provide shelter from the elements, but it must also provide for living quarters for humans. As the weather on the moon changes, engineers will have to design for extreme weather events.
